Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11) Expansion Begins

We're thrilled to announce the commencement of a landmark infrastructure project—the expansion of Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11), stretching from Al Hamra Roundabout to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311). Spearheaded by the Ras Al Khaimah Public Services Department, this initiative officially kicks off on Monday, 1 September 2025.

Scroll Down
  • Phase One (≈ 24 months): Expansion of the road from two to four lanes in each direction, alongside the introduction of parallel service roads. Utility enhancements—such as upgraded electricity, telecommunications, drainage, irrigation systems, LED street lighting, and an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for smarter traffic management—will also be installed.
  • Phase Two (≈ 21 months): Structural upgrades including the construction of bridges, underpasses, and parking facilities at key junctions like Dolphin Junction, the E11–E311 intersection, Al Hamra underpass, and Mina Al Arab underpass to ease congestion and boost connectivity.

    To minimize disruption:
    • Traffic diversions will be in place, with temporary roads such as a 2 km diversion to maintain vehicle flow.
    • Expect phased lane closures and clear alternative routes—especially around Al Hamra Roundabout.

  • Once completed, this critical upgrade is expected to:

    • Dramatically reduce travel times and ease congestion
    • Enhance safety, efficiency, and regional connectivity
    • Support the emirate’s urban and economic growth, providing better access to residential, commercial, and industrial zones and upcoming developments like the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort
